Adinkrahene Book One Excerpt

Unmasked AgentJONATHAN FRAISER

When I opened my eyes, I realized that I was back in my room. My bedroom window was open, so I could hear the rushing water from the underground stream flowing through the cavern and splashing against the craggy shore. But I also felt throbbing pain coming from the now closed incision that Doc had made at the base of my neck.

“Welcome back to the world of the living.” It was Mr. Black.

I looked to my right expecting him to be standing in the bedroom doorway. I waited, but he never entered the room.

I sat up a little straighter on my bed.

“Hello,” I exclaimed. “Is anyone there?”

Silence, then, “We’re here, Jonathan.” It was Doc. “Just not there. We’re in your head.”

“How?”

Mr. Black said, “The Slipstream Disc implanted at the base of our necks allows us to telepathically and holographically communicate with each other.”

Doc added, “You’re now a walking smartphone, son.”

They instructed me to put on the black, form-fitting combat suit that had been placed next to me on the bed. I was to report to the training deck. When I arrived, other similarly dressed agents, about seventy-four in all, stood at attention along the edges of the training deck floor. One of the trainers waved me to an open spot.

The training deck floor was the size of a football field, the ceiling at least fifty stories high. I started to step into the spot that I had been directed to, but when I saw Big Nate, I decided to create a spot next to him. He extended his fist to me, and I bumped it with my own.

The ceiling panels slid to the side, and we Adinkrahene agents watched as Mr. Black and Doc slowly floated through the opening and the air to land in the center of the training deck floor. They were also dressed in black, form-fitting combat suits. There were plenty of oohs and aahs from the new agents, but not from me. I had seen it all before, with Selina. I just wanted to know what I had to do to access the kind of power they were displaying.

“Family,” Mr. Black began, pacing in front of us. Doc stood in the background, punching at the virtual buttons on his tablet. “The time has come for us to reveal ourselves to the world. For years, we have stood in the shadows as the Corporate Cabal has demonized us, members of the Black Diaspora. But I’m here to tell you those days are about to end. While we must still exist in the shadows, the time for us to exert more of our influence is now.”

We all applauded at that.

“Each of you has been fitted with a Slipstream Disc. This disc allows us to telepathically and holographically communicate with each other, but, more importantly, manipulate the electro-magnetic energy around us.”

We watched Doc toss his tablet into the air and then grab hold of it with some kind of energy beam to set it on a table twenty-five feet to his right, our left. He then pressed his fists together, extended his elbows out, and released a beam of solidified light from his elbows to his forearms that hit Mr. Black so hard that he was sent reeling across the room toward us. We scattered, thinking he was going to fall on us. But he didn’t. Instead, Mr. Black encased himself inside a cocoon of electro-magnetic energy to freeze his descent and stand himself upright again.

“Y’all see that,” he laughed, wagging his finger at his friend. “He sucker-punched me.”   He then raised his arm to fire two beams of solidified light at Doc. Doc erected a light shield to deflect the blasts.

Doc lifted his right arm to signify his surrender. The two men then met once more at center deck, where they joyfully embraced.

Mr. Black’s attention returned to us. “A great philosopher once said, ‘With great power comes great responsibility.’ Seventy-five of you have received this power, one hundred of us all together. Now, you must decide how you will use it.” Mr. Black then used his right hand to form a light-blue energy ball. We all became mesmerized by the sight of it. “I believe the most righteous path for Adinkrahene is for our leaders to move more of our people from mediocrity to excellence. Each of us must do our part to build upon the work of Douglass, Dubois, X and King.”

He flung the energy ball toward the opened ceiling, where it exploded to give off something reminiscent of a fireworks display.

“But I must warn you, family. Misuse of these powers will not be tolerated. You must adhere to the Adinkrahene Way. That means you will not use this power to rule our enemies; you will use it to serve, protect humanity from itself. In short, you will use it to restore the Pangean Nation, where all of humanity is once again united in thought and purpose.”

Mr. Black brought his hands together as if in prayer. “Anyone found guilty of not abiding by this principle will be removed from The Grid. Understood.”

“Yes, sir,” we responded, in one voice.

Before any of us could receive the Slipstream Disc and be connected to The Grid, we had to pledge our allegiance to the Adinkrahene Reparations Management Syndicate. But we also received a warning about the Slipstream Disc. Implanting it on our persons was the easy part. However, if it had to be remotely disabled by the ninety-nine other Adinkrahene agents due to an agent’s selfishness, pride or greed, he, or she, would die instantly. To put this in layman’s terms, a disabled Slipstream Disc was equivalent to having one’s heart ripped from his chest. And we all know what that means.

No heart, no life.

Adinkrahene agents’ hearts beat as one due to our connection to The Grid. Black unity at its best. But as I stood there watching Big Nate and the other agents gleefully swarming around Mr. Black and Doc, I wondered why no one had suggested that Selina be disconnected from The Grid. Selfishness, pride and greed were clearly motivating her disregard for the Adinkrahene Way.

Selina had been one of my closest friends, so I knew that if a vote came up, I would have reservations about saying yea. Thus, I knew I had to locate Selina, talk some sense into her, before Mr. Black and the others forced me to change my vote so her kill switch could be activated.

I recently visited Amazon.com to view my sales statistics.  During the month of January 2015, I couldn’t get readers to add any of my books to their personal libraries. To say this news is a downer would be an understatement.  It’s not like I haven’t let the world know about the relevancy of these titles, which are available as eBooks and paperbacks.

The title that I want them to purchase is ADINKRAHENE: Fear of a Black Planet.  That’s my debut novel, the one that has Black people wielding supernatural powers in an honorable and responsible way.  These powerful Black super humans don’t want to exact vengeance on White people for 400 years of slavery and Jim Crow legislation; they ultimately want to get the human race to see that it is one race, not many.  I readily admit that there is a faction of Blacks, the technologically advanced militia group Black-Out, that defaults to using violence to secure power, influence and control, but if I did not offer its members’ perspective, the story would be, well, boring.

The ADINKRAHENE series is all about restoring the human family to its original state, one in which every person on the planet, regardless of their race and ethnicity, worships the Heavenly Father and understands that treating each other with love, honor and respect pleases this same Heavenly Father.  Much like R & B singer Bobby Brown, who boldly sang about having a prerogative, I think it is time for us to adopt what I call The Human Family Prerogative.

For the purposes of these stories, this Heavenly Father is the god of Adam and Noah, Abraham and Issaac, David and Jesus.  I do assert that these biblical figures and deity are Black and not White, and I feel no shame in making such an assertion.  Our collective history has been corrupted, oftentimes for selfish reasons, all to make one racial/ethnic group’s members feel more superior to all of the others.  ADINKRAHENE is my attempt to level the playing field in a fictional sense so people who look like me can gain a semblance of respect in a culture that seems to hate and despise us.  More importantly, though, I want to show Whites that Blacks can push their anger, frustration and resentment aside to work with them to reconcile differences. The altruistic, Black characters in this series know the truth – that Lucifer (i.e., Satan) and his minions (i.e., the Satarians) are responsible for the unraveling of our once unified kingdom.

There are two more books in the series – Fear of a Beloved Community and Fear of an Alien Presence.  These books will get written with or without your support.  I’m a writer, remember?  But I would much rather type sentences and paragraphs on my laptop computer knowing you are looking forward to the release of the next ADINKRAHENE novel.  For you know that prejudice and discrimination are alive and well in America and around the world.  But you also know eradicating this issue is highly improbable if we fail to discuss its underlying causes and effects.

Thank you to all those individuals who have shown that they believe in me by purchasing one or more of my books.  I am truly grateful.

And to those individuals who are new readers of the ADINKRAHENE Series, I say welcome.

My Conversation with Roland

ImageOn Tuesday, June 10th, I received an email from the producers of NewsOne Now with Roland S. Martin.  They wanted to see if I would be available for a Skype interview on Thursday, June 12th. With the Father’s Day Weekend fast approaching, Roland wanted to chat with me about my experiences as a stay-at-home father.

Of course, I responded yes.  Who in their right mind would turn down an opportunity to speak with former Cable News Network (CNN) Political Analyst Roland S. Martin on a nationally televised news program?  As a parent who proudly wore the Mr. Mom label for over seven years, I felt I had plenty to say about this topic.  And now that I am once again serving in this role while simultaneously trying to build a loyal following for my debut novel, ADINKRAHENE: Fear of a Black Planet, I embrace these kind of opportunities.  I just wish I had been given more time to provide more thorough responses to Roland’s questions.  But that’s what happens when you have a twenty-minute segment, and you’re sharing the stage with parenting experts like Kenrya Rankin Naasel and Dr. Avis Jones-DeWeever.

If I had been given more time, I would have told Roland that my situation is neither special nor unique. Husbands all across America are making the hard decision to resign from their full-time jobs to change soiled diapers, transport their children to and from school, while their wives work tirelessly from 9-5 to bring home the bacon.  Back in August 2005, I opted to resign from my job as the Director of the Bruce Wells Scholars TRIO Upward Bound Program (Worcester, Massachusetts) because my son needed the kind of support and influence that only I could give him.  As I stated during the interview, my number one objective is to help him establish his own platform for success.  Yes, he does have a long way to go.  But a prideful smile crosses my face when I realize my fifth grader has been an A-B student since the third grade.  My hope is he maintains this momentum, for the future is bright for individuals who commit themselves to lifelong learning and community engagement.

During my conversation with Roland, I alluded to the fact that the state of black males is not good.  This allusion is based on my experiences as the child to a single-parent mother, and my interactions with black children, youths and parents as a social work professional.  But I wish I had had more time to speak with Roland about possible solutions to this problem, the importance of black men not just blaming unenlightened Whites for the condition of their families.  As my characters boldly proclaim in ADINKRAHENE: Fear of a Black Planet, some of our black men don’t understand how urgent it is for us to lead responsibly in our homes and communities.

If more of us black fathers were committed to great, charismatic leadership in these settings alone, our black children would not be embracing this misconception that they’re inferior to everyone else when it comes to brains but superior to everyone else when it comes to brawn.  They would know that superiority for Black Americans is found at the midpoint of these two extremes, and great, charismatic leadership is clearly evident when more of us are seen and heard leading the charge for fairness, righteousness and equality.

What does being a stay-a-home father have to do with my life as a novelist?  Probably nothing.  But one thing I do know: taking time to sow into my son’s life has allowed me to reap the benefits of becoming a better writer, a published one.  You see, our children get older, become more independent, wiser.  And when more of their time is spent at school, we writers, who also happen to be stay-at-home parents, are free to craft content that entertains, educates and enlightens.

If you’re like me, you see yourself once again securing full-time employment.  I resigned from my full-time Staff Analyst job with First 5 San Bernardino in April 2014 due to an impending move from California to Texas.  When these resignations occur, we ask ourselves, “Will I be able to retire before the age of 70?”  But then our focus shifts back to our product, those boxed up books that are in need of readers.  We tell ourselves, if we can sell enough books, we will never have to work a traditional 9-5 job again.

For us, writing isn’t a job, it’s a passion.  And if it weren’t for those darn bills, we would do it for free.

Thank you, Roland S. Martin, for giving me an opportunity to share.
