About J. A. Faulkerson

J. A. Faulkerson is an author, poet, and screenwriter whose work bridges the lyrical and the cinematic. Known for a distinctive voice that blends poetic precision with narrative depth, Faulkerson explores themes of memory, identity, loss, and transformation across multiple forms.

His fiction is marked by evocative prose and deeply introspective characters, often navigating the quiet tensions between inner experience and the external world. As a poet, Faulkerson writes primarily in free verse, employing vivid imagery and restrained language to capture fleeting emotional and psychological states.

In screenwriting, Faulkerson brings a literary sensibility to visual storytelling, emphasizing atmosphere, nuanced dialogue, and character-driven narratives. This interdisciplinary approach allows his work to resonate with both emotional intimacy and cinematic scope.

An emerging voice in contemporary storytelling, J. A. Faulkerson continues to develop a body of work that reflects a commitment to craft, subtlety, and the enduring power of story.

In July 2015, Faulkerson’s debut novel Adinkrahene: Fear of a Black Planet was named one of three finalists for a Phillis Wheatley Book Award (in the First Fiction category). The Phillis Wheatley Book Awards are held annually as the kickoff event for New York City’s Harlem Book Fair.

In 2025, his poems Agent of Change and The Wise Man Say were published in the Mid-Atlantic Review.

Faulkerson is available to speak about his insights and experiences as a Creative Writer, Child and Family Advocate, Social Entrepreneur, and former TRIO Upward Bound and YMCA Director.
